VIB Shield Plus L5
Vibriosis – or genital campylobacteriosis – is a venereal disease that is spread from cow to bull and bull to cow during breeding. The disease often destroys the embryo at its earliest stages. An apparent drop in conception rates or increase in abortions often indicate vibriosis in the herd. Vaccination of bulls, cows and heifers is essential to stop the spread of this disease.
Another disease with reproductive effects is leptospirosis. “Lepto” can be found in many domestic animals as well as wildlife. It is shed in the urine of infected animals, which contaminates feed and water and spreads the disease. There are few clinical signs of disease, but cows may abort in the late stages of pregnancy.
Vib Shield Plus L5 is a “one shot” product that can be used to protect the breeding herd against both vibriosis and five common strains of lepto. Vib Shield Plus L5 is made with Novartis’ exclusive XTend® SP adjuvant that maintains higher and longer-lasting immune stimulation. A single injection 2-4 weeks prior to breeding helps stop reproductive diseases that upset breeding schedules.
Also available is Vib Shield Plus, a vibriosis vaccine with Xtend III® that can be given anytime within 12 months prior to breeding. In a challenge study, Vib Shield Plus protected 100% of cows challenged with two strains of vibrio, while the controls showed only 67% conception rates.
